Merivale School, Tauranga
To dream, innovate and achieve – these are the values of Merivale School/ Te Kura o Tutarawananga in Tauranga. So, when Playground Creations was asked to design the school’s new playground, these values shone through.
The school is sited where, historically for local iwi, learning first took place in Tauranga Moana. For present day students, a foundation ethos of matuatai te ako/learning first, is expressed in play, social interaction, and creativity, as well as through more formal styles of learning.
Encompassing equipment that allows for height, challenge, extension and balance, the playground’s design encourages students to dream big, with the central tower a popular meeting area for students enjoying the magic of play.
“The playground has been a real hit. Intervals see the majority of our senior students challenging themselves on the various pieces of equipment. They love the tower and it's seen as a meeting area. The senior students came up with a playground code on how it should be used. Their ideas aligned very well with our school values. "Safety First and be Respectful". Thank you once again.”
