Red Square Relocatable Play Pod
Project: Red Square Relocatable Play Pod
Client: Tauranga City Council
The Ground
Tauranga City Council had a vision - to create a playful, engaging space in the heart of Red Square that attracted families to laugh and linger for longer in the urban centre.
Designed to complement the newly upgraded Red Square, the Play Pod, manufactured by the Playground Creations team, offers an inviting environment for families to explore. With its compact design, the Play Pod fits seamlessly into the space, working around the complex underground services without compromising on play value.
This initiative was an essential part of Tauranga’s “Playful City” strategy, reinforcing the city as a great place to live, work, learn, and play.
The Creation
Drawing inspiration from the journey of water - movement, bubbles, and currents - the design reflects the natural flow from spring to ocean. The structure encourages children to interact with its features, sparking curiosity about the forces of nature and the world around them.
The Play
The Play Pod is a hub of activity, offering a variety of play elements designed to challenge and engage children of all ages. With opportunities for sliding, climbing, crawling, balancing, and sensory exploration, the Play Pod caters to different developmental stages and abilities.
Whether children are testing their coordination, strengthening their balance, or simply having fun, the Play Pod fosters creativity and learning in an exciting and safe environment.
