Salisbury School
The Ground
Located in park-like grounds where 150-year-old trees have heritage status, Salisbury School in Richmond is the country’s only residential specialist school for girls with complex needs. With its individualised learning programmes and collective vision for ‘’every girl to succeed’’, the school wanted to create an accessible and inclusive play space that catered for all students and complemented the existing playground.
The Creation
Extensive consultation enabled Playground Creations to design a play area that addressed sensory, physical and social needs. The central fale provides a focal point where students can rest and socialise within the playground space; a monkey bar and turning bars promote upper body strength; double bay swing sets, staircase and colourful textured panels foster sensory play.
The Play
Artificial turf surfacing throughout provides for soft landings and a free-draining hoggin path ensures good accessibility to all the entire play area. Playground Creations have delivered on the school’s goals of active, varied play and social engagement.
’A wonderful team who have collaborated with us to design and deliver an amazing and inclusive playground for our residential special school. Highly recommended. Thank you, Playground Creations!’’
