Zayed College for Girls
The Ground
Zayed College for Girls offers a unique educational experience for Islamic secondary school students in Auckland. Established in 2001 by the Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahayan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, the school’s vision is for every girl to develop a beautiful character and academic excellence in a nurturing Islamic environment.
The Playground Creations team were tasked with designing and constructing a playground on the school grounds, tucked away out the back of the school with a grass reserve outlook.
The Creation
The College wanted to create a space that fostered a fun atmosphere with equipment that could be used as a hangout space during breaks and class time. A climbing element was a top choice, as was overhead equipment and a synthetic safety surface for easy maintenance.
The Playground Creations team developed two potential designs, one of which featured a climbing net. This proved to be the preferred option. The school also chose beautiful bright colours for the 6m Haemus Net and the Overhead Trio, made up of a Wheel Trek, C Challenge & Gladiator Rings.
Three hammocks and a double bay swing with two baskets were also included in the design to encourage social interaction, while artificial turf ensured a safe surface.
The Play
Designed to cater for the full Year 7 – 13 age group of students, the playground has been a resounding success.
“The students are very excited. I want to thank your team on the ground for how respectful they were towards our staff and students, and how responsible they were with their worksite health and safety. Having them on site has been an absolute breeze with no inconvenience to the school in anyway.”
